The second opportunity I got to work on was with Unndr, a lingerie company. Again, this opportunity came from a DM, however this onboarding was much more organized and professional. Also, I was given a 2-week contract, paid.
I was feeling very grateful about landing a paid job. Let’s just say, they definitely got their money’s worth.
I worked 5 days across the 2 weeks, with one day on set, assisting on shoot for the launch of a new product. The brand definitely isn’t my aesthetic, so designing for them was quite difficult. My job was less about graphic design and more on social media design and consultancy?
Over those 5 days, I did 3D modelling, social media design, apparel design, and more. The more I worked for Unndr, the more things I started to notice. They valued my opinion, and we’re aware that they are stuck in their ways, but their ways were really stuck and what they liked about what I was doing was completely oppositional to the brand.
As they were wanting to change their image, they were liking things that aligned with the new image, but the new image wasn’t ready, nor was it very good. A harsh critic, but their visual identity they wanted to role out didn’t make sense and stripped them of their warmth.
Meeting the team and working in person was nice. I realised that I enjoyed the partially remote working pattern as on set and in an office with people, I struggle to get on with my work, but the social interaction side of things is very nice.
On my final day, they asked me what I would like to do, and I suggested designing apparel as I wasn’t the biggest fan of the Graphic Tee’s they wanted to print. I wanted to show them how they can stay on brand with their imagery, rather than copying a style very distant from them.
They loved my presentation, and understood my points. This was very refreshing and I feel like we came to a great understanding. After this, they decided to extend my contract, I will be working for them in the near future for 3-months.
